  It is sad though that even after classrooms full of kids are massacred there is still no political will to enact even basic changes to have background checks.

  Background checks are required.  Any licensed dealer is required to perform background checks.  I'm a manager at Walmart and have sold somewhere around 300 guns in my career.  They all had to pass a background check.

  What isn't required by most states is background checks for private sales.  In other words, you can go to a gun show say in the state of Florida with your gun.  You can then sell it to anyone there and not be required to perform a background check.  That is the loophole some feel needs to be fixed.  Federal law defines a private seller as anyone who doesn't rely on gun sales as their principal means of financial support.

  Things can change if enough people will it, gun control, a tightening up of regulations can effect a public change of mood.  That is a very powerful thing.  It needs political courage to start the ball rolling.

  Those are all valid but guns are part of America's culture.  It will be very hard to change an entire countries culture.  Gun ownership transcends all types of groups.  Democrats, Republicans, all races, males, and females. ect. own guns in this country.  A mass shooting and killing of little children is not enough to even get real gun control laws to be pass on a national level, and people still think guns will be banned.
  

  Again, the only question I have is, "How are you going to disarm over 100 million Americans and remove around 310 million guns from this country?"

  Those who argue that all guns should be banned will never in their life time see it happen in the USA.  I know the adage of avoiding the word "never".  However, there are 100's and 100's of millions of guns in the hands of over a hundred million Americans.  Guns are very easy to purchase legally in this country.  You can walk into a Walmart that sales gun and walk out with a rifle that holds a 30 round clip (depending on location) capable of firing a .223 round as fast as you can pull a trigger.  You just have to fill out 4473 form and a background check.  Most locations only have to keep the 4473 for twenty years and after that records go bye bye.  Most are paper base and not kept in digital format.

  So how exactly do you plan on disarming millions of people? Keep in mind there is no national gun registry.

  insidetheKH and Chaserious make some very good points.  Never advertising in their magazines and their buildings except for themselves supports the idea they may never do so on their webpage.

  The proposed ADs on their website was just one suggestion.  It may not happen or for a very long time.  But there are other methods to generate income from their site.  They could hold a special talk online and have a link attached for donations.  Imagine if they only got one fourth of their active members to donate $5 during that talk.

  Not necessarily. It has been a long time since I've taken tax courses and a CPA could answer this better.  But the Ads would probably follow under Unrelated Business Income (UBI) and they would pay income tax on that revenue.  Unless the revenue was a large percentage of their overall donation it shouldn't affect their nonprofit status.

  Any thing is possible with this new version of Witnesses.  Just like it would be unthinkable of a self proclaim righteous loyal Jehovah's Witness in the old regimen  to ever go against what the society stated in regards to visiting "apostate or opposed" websites in years past, but now daily active witnesses come here and lurk.  Some even create an account, reply to threads, and start new threads.  Never when I was active in the 90's would any member in good standing do such a thing.  So we shall see in 10 years or so what changes occur in regards to their website.

  Earlier in the week someone posted the potential value of the JW website based on visits and if they used advertisements.  Many stated they would never do that but I propose they could.

  Besides their real estate profit making business model, they have the conventions as cash generating machines.  They give directions to their members to which hotels/motels to use.  Couldn't they with all the vendors they deal with incorporate ADs to their website and tell their members to use these vendors.  In other words why couldn't they have ads on their site for Comfort Inn (for conventions) or Ads for Roku  (to watch JW TV).  Once they get the dubs to accept this they could expand.

  Don't think it can never happen.  I never would of thought they would stop mailing watchtowers to your home and now they embrace the internet for cost savings.

  They have millions of people who for free will push the jw.org website.  What other business can boast that?  And not only are these people going to advertise for free but they are paying customers.  It will be interesting to see what path the GB takes once they figure out the gold mine they are sitting on.  Perhaps even a paid subscription to their JW TV.
